My New Pair of Eyes

A little over a month ago, I went to Sam's Club Optical to have my eyes checked. I have been wearing glasses for the last five years and this time I am scheduled to try contact lenses. My decision to try contact lenses was actually influenced by my mom. I accompanied my mom to her eye check-up last January and after a couple of hours waiting for her, I went in to check on her and imagine my surprise when I saw my mom trying contact lenses (unfortunately, she gave up after several unsuccessful attempts...she said she couldn't keep her eyes open when putting the contact lens in). Hence I thought to myself, "if my mom was brave enough to try it, why can't I?" ...and that thought resulted in my dilemma. The night before my scheduled eye check-up, I was so worried that I did not get much sleep. I don't like putting anything in my eyes, not even eye drops and the mere thought of touching my eyes scares me.

Then the dreaded day came. After doing some tests on my eyes, it's time to try the contacts on. At first it felt weird when Dr. Darby put the contact lenses in my eyes then I guess my eyes adjusted after a while and I don't even feel them. The next step was the hardest though because I now have to put the contact lenses in myself... I thought I could never do it but after an hour or so I was finally able to (I almost gave up, I must have cried a bucket of tears...lol). Since it is my first time to wear contact lenses, I was advised to wear the contacts only for 6 hours the first day, 8 hours the second day and so on.

Although a bit pricey, I requested for the 1-day Acuvue Moist because I wanted the most comfortable and convenient... I didn't want to go through the trouble of cleaning my lenses and with 1-day Acuvue I can just toss it away at the end of the day and put in fresh lenses the next day.

Luckily my eyes stays moist all day so I haven't used the eye-drops yet. I haven't used the case and the solution either because once I put my contact lenses in I don't take them out until nighttime.

I have always believed that my eyes were so sensitive, that's why I have never considered contact lenses before. At the moment, I really love and enjoy the freedom of excellent vision without glasses. I am slowly getting the hang of my contact lenses and with a bit more practice, I think I can master the fastest placement technique (the two-hand placement technique works best for me). I can now put them on in less than 10 minutes that is if I'm lucky...haha. It's funny though because from time to time I will still push on the bridge of my nose thinking that my glasses are falling off (old habits are hard to break). ;)
